Hawaii Auto Insurance

Hawaii State law requires that your vehicle be insured throughout the motor vehicle registration period and that you have a valid Hawaii motor vehicle insurance identification card in you motor vehicle at all times.

Personal injury protection  ("PIP") limit  $10,000 per person personal injury.
Your mandatory coverage also include a bodily injury liability policy with split limits of $20,000 per person/$40,000 per accident and a property damage liability policy that covers $10,000 per occurrence . These cover damages for the injured party when you are at-fault in an accident.

Your insurance agent or company must advise you about your uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage options including your right to decline coverage in writing.

Hawaii is a considered a "no-fault state". Because of this you cannot sue or be sued unless there are serious injuries as determined by a judge. Also note that "no-fault" applies to only to bodily injuries and the driver-at-fault in an accident is responsible for damages to the  property of others.

The State of Hawaii Motor Vehicle Safety Administrator  and the Insurance Division both encourage you to get comparison quotes when making a car insurance purchase.
