Maine auto Insurance Coverage Required by Law

Maine law requires that you buy liability insurance, uninsured motorists, and medical payments coverage.

Bodily Injury Insurance - split limit - 50000 per injured person  limit / 100000 per accident limit
Property Damage Insurance - 25000 per accident
You may purchase a single limit policy for $125,00 with all the above coverage.

Medical payments coverage - $2000 minimum limit

Uninsured motorist - limits must be no less than those provided by the purchased Bodily Injury Insurance

You must have proof of required insurance coverage to register a motor vehicle in the State of Maine. The State of Maine mandated coverage is the highest required coverage among the 50 states.

The above are minimum amounts of insurance and may be to low protect your assets from claims above the established limits . The cost of higher limits may prove to be relatively low.
