An automobile registered in New York State must have liability insurance

The liability insurance coverage must remain in effect while the automobile registration is valid, even if the car is not used. All car insurance policies on all automobiles registered in the State of New York, must be issued by an auto insurance company liscenesed to do business in the State of New York.

Auto Insurance coverage must meet or exceed the following  minimums;
Bodily Injury Insurance-split limit - $25,000 per person / $50,000 per accident
Life Insurance/death benefit -split limit - $50,000 per person / $100,000 per accident
Property Damage Insurance - $10,000 per accident 

New York is a  “No-fault” auto insurance state.
